A REVIEW OF ALKALINE FORMING -VS.- ACID FORMING NUTS, GRAINS & SEEDS

Since I wrote my first cookbook in 2016, I have been closely studying and  researching the following:

  1. The reactions of the body to alkaline and acid foods
  2. How to maintain an alkaline body
  3. Which foods rank highest on the alkaline and acid scale
  4.  Conclusive findings on which grains, nuts, pulses, & beans are alkaline or acid-forming

I looked long and hard before I completed my first cookbook, and I continue to do research on the subject of alkalinity &  acidity. They are many ideas regarding this subject floating around on the internet and in some books. At a young age, I completed a course in nutrition, and always had a flair for how the body reacts to different foods.

In this blog, I would like to briefly look at (number 4): Conclusive findings on which grains, nuts, pulses & beans are alkaline-forming or acid-forming.

After studying the subject of Alkalinity and Acidity, and the conclusive findings of Dr. Theodore A. Baroody(N.D., D.C., Ph.D. Nutrition, C.N.C along with Dr. Stanley Odle, Jr. B.Tech, M.Sc., N.D.  I have thoughtfully and prayerfully considered the following:

ALKALINE FORMING GRAINS ACID FORMING GRAINS
Amaranth, Millet, Quinoa, & Fonio. Barley, Buckwheat, Spelt, Oats, Brown & White rice, Rye, Cornmeal, Wheat.

 

ALKALINE FORMING BEANS ACID FORMING  BEAN
Fresh Lima, Snap, String. Chickpeas, Lentils, Kidney, Mung, Navy, Pinto, Red, Broadbean, Aduki & Black
ALKALINE FORMING  NUTS ACID FORMING NUTS
Almonds, Chestnuts, Coconut(fresh), Pignolias. Brazil, Cashew, Coconut (dry), Peanuts, Pecans, Pistachios, Macadamia, & Hazelnuts
ALKALINE FORMING SEEDS ACID FORMING SEEDS
Alfalfa Sprouts, Chia, Flax & Sesame. Pumpkin, Sunflower, Wheat Germ.

NOTE: The  American Nutrition Association also indicates that Chestnuts and Almonds are alkaline while Cashews, Pecans, & Brazil nuts are acid-forming.

NOTE OF ENCOURAGEMENT TO ALL: Dr. Thoeodore A. Baroody in his book  ‘Alkalize Or Die’-  states the following:  ‘Acid forming grains & beans become alkaline when sprouted…’

IN CONCLUSION: For about 45 years, my husband and I have eaten from a plant-based diet.  We have much to thank God for. I would like to encourage you to consider a plant-based alkaline diet.
